Stay-Puff Diddy!Sean John Combs, or Diddy, is Hip-Hop Mogul, founder and CEO of Diddy's Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group as well as designer, actor and rap artist.
Sean John Combs was born to Melvin and Janice Combs in Harlem, New York. At the age of two, his father was murdered having been shot dead in his car after a party. Combs grew up in Mount Vernon and attended the Roman Catholic school Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx. He then attended college at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and began his career in music as an intern for Uptown Records.
After friction with Uptown Records, Combs left and with the support of Russell Simmons he formed Bad Boy Records in 1994. With only two artist on the label, Craig Mack and Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G.), Bad Boy Records grew to include artists Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Faith Evens, Total, Lil' Kim, TLC, Boyz II Men and Aretha Franklin. It was also at this time that conflict with rival Death Row Records' producer Suge Knight and artist Tupac Shakur was heavily publicized until Shakur's death in 1996 and Smalls' death in 1997.
Bad Boy Records became a huge success leading Combs to pursue other interests under the umbrella of his company, Diddy's Bad Boy World Entertainment Group. In 1997 Combs established Justin's an upscale restaurant in Chelsea, New York with a second restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia (1999). In 1998 Combs started Sean John his fashion line for men and in 2005 he brought Sean by Sean Combs, his fashion line for women, to his storefront Sean John Fifth Avenue Boutique. As founder and CEO of Diddy's Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group, Combs's has an estimated worth of $546 million.
Combs as an entertainer first released No Way Out (1997), followed by Forever (1999), The Saga Continues (2001) and We Invented The Remix Vol.1 (2002) -all of which reached platinum status only to be surpassed by his latest release Press Play (2006) which achieved gold and #1 on U.S. charts three months since its release.
Combs' trail of controversies almost outruns his list of successes. He has been involved in shady dealings since 1998 being held partly responsible for nine deaths at City College of New York. The deaths occurred from a stampede of an over-crowded and underregulated event. From there his talent as an artist remains in question with overuse of sampling and lack of original content. His conflict with various record producers didn't end with Suge Knight but continued with Combs'arrest for aggravated assault against Steve Stoute of Interscope Records and manager of Nas. After a shooting at a Manhatten nightclub, Combs bribed his driver to take his gun. He and rapper Shyne were arrested following the incident, but Comb's attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. was successful in Comb's acquittal while Shyne was convicted and sent to prison for ten years. Shortly after, Combs changed his name to "P. Diddy." He has since adopted the name "Diddy" in 2005.
In 2005 Combs was publicly linked to the Gambino Mafia member, Andrew Campos. The two go back to his catholic school days.
Combs has been nominated nine times and honored with three Grammy awards. In 1998, he received best rap performance for the single "I'll Be Missing You" and best album for No Way Out. Again in 2004, he received best rap performance for "Shake Ya Tailfeather."
In 2004 he was honored with the Perry Ellis Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for best menswear designer of the year.
The self-described humanitarian has founded a number of charitable social programs under his foundation Daddy's House Social Programs, Inc. (1995), as a source of support for inner city youths. Programs include: Daddy's House Weekend Boys and Girls Club, Daddy's House on Wall Street, Daddy's House College Tours, Daddy's House International Travel Groups, and Daddy's House Sleep Away Camps and Bad Boy Internships. In 2000, he donated to his Alma Mater, Howard University giving $500,000. He has donated over a 100 computers to 500 public schools in Harlem and New York.
He has been a prolific fund raiser. In November 2003, he completed the New York City Marathon in 4 hours and 14 minutes raising $2 million benefitting children's charities.
Politically, he formed Citizen Change campaign, encouraging young minority voters to take part in the much anticipated 2006 election. He takes credit for the 4.6 million youth voter increase.
In 2003, protestors stood outside Comb's New York store, Sean John Fifth Avenue Boutique, in defiance of the work conditions in his central american factories in the Honduras. Other controversies around his clothing line sprang up in December of 2006 when it was revealed artificial fur in his hoodies was genuine canine fur. Combs acknowledged complete unawareness on both accounts and took action in favor of both parties, on separate occasions.
Combs became a father of twin girls, D'Lila Star and Jessie James,on December 21, 2006 with girlfriend, model Kim Porter. Combs and Porter have a son, Christian (1998). Combs has another son, Justin (1993), from a previous relationship with ex-girlfriend, stylist Misa Hylton-Brim. | |

Titana Florida | Posted at 5:13pm on Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 | P. Diddy is a wonderful guy but it is hard to over look all the people he lied to. I understand that he had to make in the music industry but he didn't have to throw people that he worked with under the bus. All he had to do is tell truth on why he had to let them go or what ever the case may have been. He was in control they couldn't have done anything about it. Its just my opinon on P. Diddy. But over all I think he will make it to the top.
