Alicia Silverstone is an actress known for her roles in Clueless and Batman and Robin.
Silverstone was raised in Hillsborough, California, and is the youngest of three children. She also has a half-sister, Kezi Silverstone, and a half-brother, David Silverstone, from her father, Monty's, previous marriage. Silverstone began modelling and advertising work during high school, which helped her get guest parts in The Wonder Years.
Silverstone's acting career began in 1993 in the film, The Crush. During this time she emancipated herself from her parents to work the long hours required to shoot the film. Following, she began working in music videos for the band Aerosmith, including "Cryin," "Crazy," and "Amazing." She was also offered the role of Valerie Malone on Beverly Hills 90210 around this time. However, she turned it down and it went to Tiffani Amber Thiessen.
In 1995, Silverstone became well-known over night with the film Clueless. As a result, she signed a $10 million deal with Columbia-TriStar, under which Excess Baggage was released. Around this time she was Batgirl in Batman and Robin. Batman and Robin, however, turned out to be a critical failure.
Silverstone refuses to appear nude in any of her films, and requires a body double in her place for nude scenes.
She married Christopher Jarecki, longtime boyfriend, and lead singer of S.T.U.N. on June 11, 2005. She is a vegan, and a strong advocate for animal rights and welfare. She fluently speaks French.
Silverstone's most recent film, Storm breaker (2006), is based upon a novel by Anthony Horowitz.
