Don't Tell Me You're Innocent!Al Pacino is one of the great American actors, known for his work in movies ranging from The Godfather to Scarface and Scent of a Woman. His intense on-screen presence, despite his 5'6" stature, has earned him popular adulation and critical acclaim.
While Pacino was a young child, his parents divorced. His father, Salvatore Pacino, was born in Italy. His role model became Lee Strasberg in the late 1960s when he was suffering from depression and so poor he could not afford bus fairs to take him to auditions.
By the end of the decade, he had won awards for his roles in The Indian Wants the Bronx and Does the Tiger Wear a Necktie? His performance in film The Panic in Needle Park, where he played a heroin addict, brought his talent to Francis Ford Coppola's attention. In 1972, he landed the role as Michael Corleone in The Godfather. This film earned him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. His performance in Scent of a Woman (1992) earned him an Oscar for Best Actor.
The 1990s continued to highlight successful performances by Pacino. These films include hit Dick Tracy, Carlito's Way, Heat, Insomnia, and the supernatural drama Devil's Advocate.
Pacino has three children: Julie Marie with acting coach Jan Tarrant, and twins, Anton and Olivia, with ex-girlfriend Beverly D'Angelo. Pacino has never been married. | |
