Christian Bale is an actor who became famous for his role in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun (1987) when he was 13, but is best-known for his role in Batman Begins (2005).
Bale was born to business man, David Bale and circus performer, Jenny James. He spent his childhood in the UK, Portugal, and the United States. Bale began his acting career at the age of 9, appearing in a Pac-man cereal advertisement. His performance in Empire of the Sun brought his critical acclaim. Later, he appeared in Henry V (1989). In 1992 he began training in dance and martial arts for movie projects, including Disney's Newsies (1992), and Swing Kids (1993). His role as Laurie in the film adaption for the book Little Women (1994) gained him further attention.
Bale is known for becoming the character he plays; he lost more than 60 pounds for his part in The Machinist (2004). He is good at portraying dark and mentally complex characters, rather than typical heros. He can also mimic accents, and has used a different one in each of his films.
Bale was a potential choice to play the role of Anakin Skywalker in episodes two and three of Star Wars.
Bale married Sibi Blazic, a former model and personal assistant of Winona Ryder, on January 29, 2000. They have one daughter, born March 27, 2005. Bale is active in Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund -both non-profit, environmental organizations. | |
