The Genie is Out of the Bottle
Christina Aguilera, also known as Xtina, is spotlighted for her eloquent vocals and unique style of dress. Since the start of her career, Aguilera has earned four number-one singles on the Billboard Top 100 and four Grammy Awards.
Aguilera's first role in entertainment took place in 1993 when she joined the The New Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney Channel. She co-starred Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, and Keri Russell.
Her first self-titled album was released in August of 1999 and reached the top of American and Canadian charts, selling over eight million copies in America alone. Number one spot singles include "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants," and "Come on Over (All I Want is You)." It wasn't until 2000 that she publicly acknowledged her Latina heritage by releasing a Spanish-language album, Mi Reflejo.
In October of 2002, Aguilera's second album in english, Stripped, was released in America. She cultivated a more provocative image and denied that it was for publicity, rather it reflected a truer likeness of her personality than her album image in 1999. The debut album was not received well by critics. Eventually, the album became a huge hit after the release of the second single, "Beautiful." Later the singles "Fighter," "Can't Hold Us Down," and "The Voice Within" were released, giving Stripped enormous staying power on the charts well into 2004.
In 2005 Aguilera collaborated with Herbie Hankcock to cover Leon Russell's song, "A Song for You." The duo was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
In 2006 she released her third U.S. album, Back to Basics.
Also in 2006, she posed nude for the May issue of GQ magazine.
Aguilera married marketing executive Jordan Bratman on November 19, 2005.
