Courteney Cox is an American actress, best known for her role as Monica Geller on the popular television series, Friends.
Cox and husband, David Arquette, are the executive producers of the FX series "Dirt". The show premiered January 2, 2007. Cox stars as tabloid editor, Lucy Spiller, in the series dramatizing the relationship between tabloid paparazzi and celebrities. Former co-star, Jennifer Aniston is to appear on the show in March.
Cox was raised in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Her parents are Richard Cox and Courtney Copeland. In high school she was a cheerleader, tennis player and swimmer. After graduation she studied architecture and interior design. Cox dropped out of college one year after she began to pursue a modeling career in New York. At this time she also found interest in acting and began taking classes. Her acting debut was in a music video for Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" in 1984.
In the late 80's she began appearing in movies such as "Masters of the Universe" and "Cocoon: The Return." She also had a short but sweet role in TV series "Misfits of Science" and appeared several times in the sitcom "Family Ties." Her well-liked character Monica on "Friends" helped launch her Hollywood acting career. Although, she was the only principal member of the cast not to be nominated for an Emmy. She appeared in the following films: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1998), Scream 3 (2000) and 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001).
Cox has been married to David Arquette since June of 1999. The two became parents in June of 2004 when Cox gave birth to baby girl, Coca Riley. | |
