i've watched dave from the beginning .he still is a midwesterner at heart and doesn't forget where he came from.to say he is not bright is to show your ignorance.if you listen to him interview a political personality or someone intelligent person, listen to how quiet things are on the set .his vocabulary is wide and constructive.although he does get goofy - he is a comedian.
What do people think of David?
People say: David Letterman is smart. He is honest some of the time and not very sexy.
He is a funny, annoying and powerful fox.

David Letterman has long been known as a late night talk show host. He first appeared on Late Night With David Letterman, which premiered in February 1982 on the NBC television network. In 1993 he moved to the CBS television network as the host of the Late Show With David Letterman.
Letterman began working in broadcasting while a student at Ball State University, working at student radio station WAGO AM 570. After graduating, he went to work at WLWI TV in Indianapolis, where he was a news anchorman and weatherman. He moved to Los Angeles in 1975, working as a comedy writer and performer on a number of TV programs. His first major break came in 1980 when he was given his own morning comedy show on NBC, The David Letterman Show.
NBC moved Letterman to late night in 1982, which saw the debut of Late Night With David Letterman. His show ran immediately following The Tonight Show, hosted by Johnny Carson. Letterman gained a following for his biting wit and unusual antics and routines, including odd comedy segments, recurring characters and stupid pet tricks. As an interviwer, Letterman could be sarcastic and antagonistic to the point that a number of celebrities were afraid of appearing on the show.
In May 1992, Johnny Carson announced his retirement as host of The Tonight Show. Letterman hoped to replace him, as Carson had been a mentor to Letterman and he had served as guest host of the show 51 times. But executives at NBC chose Jay Leno, a frequent guest host for the show, to replace Carson. It was then that Letterman moved from NBC to CBS to host the new Late Show With David Letterman.
Letterman underwent quintuple bypass surgery in January 2000. While he was recovering, a number of celebrities served as guest hosts, including Bill Cosby, Kathie Lee Gifford, Dana Carvey and Janeane Garofalo. When Letterman returned to the show, the band Foo Fighters performed the song Everlong, and he introduced them as "My favorite band, playing my favorite song."
Letterman is scheduled to outlast late night talk show rival Jay Leno of The Tonight Show. His contract with CBS as host of The Late Show was extended to 2010. Leno is to retire in 2009 when Conan O'Brien will take over the show to rival Letterman as late-night funnyman.
Letterman started his own production company, Worldwide Pants Incorporated, which has produced the hit TV show Everybody Loves Raymond and the feature film Strangers with Candy.
In 1969 Letterman married his college sweetheart, Michelle Cook -- they divorced in 1977. Letterman and his longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko have one son, Harry Joseph, born November 3, 2003. They live in North Salem, New York.
