Demi Moore, born Demetria Gene Guynes, was one of the best-known actresses of the 1990s.
Moore grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh in an unstable home. Before Moore was born, her father left her mother after a two-month marriage. As a result, Moore took the surname of her stepfather, Danny Groves, who committed suicide in 1980. Groves moved Moore's family forty times due to frequently changing jobs. Her parents were both alcoholics who fought often and violently. In 1976, Moore's family settled in Los Angeles. There her actress friend, Nastassja Kinski, talked her into dropping out of high school to pursue an acting career. After quitting, she worked as a pin-up girl and did modelling in Europe.
During her early career, Moore did a series of photographs featuring frontal nudity. He film debut was in 1982 in the 3-D science fiction film, Parasite. She became known from her part of Jackie Templeton in the soap opera, Gereral Hospital, from 1983 until 1983. During this time she acquired a cocaine habit that lasted for three years. She was fired from the set of St. Elmo's Fire when she arrived intoxicated. Ironically, her character, Jules, was also a cocaine addict. She signed an agreement to quit her drug abuse, which turned her life around.
During the 1990s, Moore became the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. Some successful films include Ghost, A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal. Others, with starring roles, that earned mixed reviews include The Scarlet Letter, The Juror, Striptease, and G.I. Jane. After this 1990s stream of films, Moore took a break, returning in 2003 for the film Charlie's Angles 2: Full Throttle (she was part of the original Charlie's Angeles cast).
Moore dated musician Freddy Moore in 1979 and adopted his name. They were married in 1980; the relationship lasted for 6 years. She also dated and married Emilio Estevez (1985 - 1987), and dated John Stamos. In November, 1987 she married Bruce Willis and had three daughters Rumer Glen (1988), Scout LaRue (1991), and Tallulah Belle (1994). The couple divorced in 2000.
She earned media attention because of her romantic relationship with Ashton Kutcher who is 16 years younger than her. They were married on September 24, 2005 in a private ceremony with close friends. She lives in Hailey, Idaho near Sun Valley resort, but spends much time in Los Angeles with Kutcher.
