Gwen Stefani is the lead singer of the rock group No Doubt.
Stefani grew up in Fullerton, California. She knew at the age of 17 that she wanted a musical career. Her first job was scrubbing floors at a Dairy Queen, and then at a department store. The Los Angeles ska revival scene reinforced her interest in music. When her brother, Eric Stefani, asked her to join his band No Doubt, she was more than ready. The band's lead singer was John pence, who Stefani shared vocals with. In 1987, however, Spence committed suicide. Stefani kep No Doubt together, incuraging them to continue pushing through the difficult times. Finally, in 1991, the band was signed to Interscope.
There first album, which was released in 1992, was considered a failure. Interscope refused to support a tour and further recordings. In 1994, the band released a self-financed Beacon Street Collection, which did well enough to raise their reputation in the eyes of Interscope. No Doubt's third album was a collection written by Stefani about the tramatic events of Stefani's relationship with Tony Kanal. Tragic Kingdom contained smash hits Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, and Don't Speak; it earned two Grammy nominations.
In 1995 Stefani met Gavin Rossdale, the lead guitarist for the band Bush, at a concert to promote Tragic Kingdom. No Doubt went on tour as Bush's opening act; the relationship between Stefani and Rossdale blossomed.
No Doubt returned in 2000 with the release of Return of Saturn, followed by Rock Steady in 2001. Two years in a row Stefani won Best Pop Performance at the Grammys.
In November of 2004, Stefani released solo debut album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. It sold more copies in its first week than any debut album and was certified platinum after only four weeks. On December 8th, 2005, Gwen received five Grammy nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Album fo the Year, Record of the Year & Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
When not touring or working on other projects, she shares two homes with her husband, Gavin Rossdale, in Los Angeles and London.
