Harrison Ford is an actor best-known for his performances in the Star Wars films and as the hero Indiana Jones from the Raiders of the Lost Ark series.

Ford's career began in 1964 when he moved to Los Angeles, California to work for Columbia Records on a contract for $150 a week performing small roles. Following, he worked for Universal Studios on minor television roles and supplemented his income with carpenter work. Hired by George Lucas to build cabinets in 1975, he was noticed by the film industry. Steven Spielberg thought he was perfect for the role of Han Solo in the Star Wars trilogy.

Much of Ford's stardom is from science-fiction roles, he has said that Blade Runner was one of his least favorite roles and he has yet to return to the science-fiction genre. Other films include Witness, The Fugitive, and What Lies Beneath.

He was listed in the 2001 Guinness Book of Records as the richest actor alive; 27 of his films have grossed over $3.3 billion at the box office. He intends to film the forth Indiana Jones film with George Lucas and Steven Spilberg, and is expected to be released in 2007. He declined starring roles in the thrillers Syriana, Traffic, and A History of Violence.

Ford married Mary Marquardt in 1964; the couple had two sons, Benjamin and Willard, and divorced in 1979. Next, he married Melissa Mathison, screenwriter of E.T. in 1983. They had two children: Malcolm and Georgia. The Ford and Mathison split became one of the most expensive divorces in Hollywood history. Ford is currently in a relationship with Calista Flockheart. He tends to stay out of the limelight, trying to keep his personal life private.

Ford is the chairman of the Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagle Program, and is a pilot of planes and helicopters. He also sits on the board of directors of Conservation International.
