James Cameron is a three-time academy award winning film director. His films are typically action and/or science based and involve technology.
Cameron grew up with a passion for film. He began his career as a screen writer, moving into art direction for films such as Battle Beyond the Stars. He earned his first directorial job in 1981 with the film Piranha II: The Spawning. During this job, however, he was fired and had a mental breakdown, but while recovering he began creating The Terminator. This film was released in 1984 with special effects that surpassed its time. Terminator 2: Judgment Day, was created by extensive use of computer-generated imaging. His film, Titanic (1997) used computer-generated imaging and went down as the most expensive film made at that time.
Some of Cameron's more recent projects include documentaries on undersea explorations including Bismark, (Expedition: Bismarck) and Titanic (Ghosts of the Abyss), a film created for IMAX.
One of Cameron's more recent projects is a film adaption of the series Battle Angel Alita. The film will be shot in stereoscopic digital 3-D and has a budget of around $200 million. He is a leading advocate of 3-D stereo films.
Cameron has been married to Sharon Williams, Gale Anne Hurd (film producer), Kathryn Bigelow (director) and actress Linda Hamilton. His current wife is Suzy Amis--the couple was married in June, 2000. | |
