Jerry Seinfeld is is a stand-up comedian, and star of the long-running television comedy, Seinfeld.
Seinfeld was born to a Jewish family; his mother is Syrian and his father is Hungarian. Seinfeld married Jessica Sklar, after they met at the Reebok Sports Club, on December 25, 1999. The couple has three children: Sascha, Julian Cal, and Sheperd Kellen. For a period of his life, Seinfeld was a Scientologist. In an interview with Playboy Magazine he said, "I learned a lot and I had a good experience wih it."
After college, Seinfeld began his comedy career immediately, often performing for free to practice his skills. He held a variety of odd jobs including sellings light bulbs and hawking fake jewelry on the streets. He found his career breakthrough when he served as the master of ceremonies for the famed New York City club the Comic Strip, where he soon soon became a regular performing on the west coast. In 1980 he had a role in the sitcom Benson, but was fired after a few episodes.
Seinfeld worked with Larry David in 1990 to create what they called The Seinfeld Chronicles. However, the show was later named Seinfeld. By the fourth season the show was one of the most popular of American television. The show won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1993. Also in that year Seinfeld took Best Actor honors and penned best-seller, Seinlanguage. The show left the air in 1998, despite reports that NBC offered him $5 million per episode to continue for another season. The sitcom still receives heavy airplay. According to Forbes Magazine, Seinfeld received $267 million during 1998.
