Johnny Depp is an actor, best-known for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Depp was mostly raised in Miramar, FL where his family moved in 1970. He has a brother and two sisters. The family moved over twenty times. When Depp was thirteen he found an interest in guitar, and began playing in garage bands. His parents divorced in 1978 when he was 15. He then dropped out of high school to became a rock musician. Depp worked several odd jobs, including telemarketing, to support himself and his wife, Lori Anne Allison.

Depp became famous in the late 1980's through his heart-throb role in 21 Jump Street. In the early 1990's he gave up his television drama for a variety of movie roles including Tim Burton's Edward Scissor Hands and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He later had the lead in Don Jaun DeMarco and played Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow. A more diverse role, but almost fitting to his mysterious and charismatic persona, was his role as George Jung in Blow, co-starring Penelope Cruz. More recently, roles have taken a more fantastical approach, much like those from the beginning of his career. These films include Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which turned out to be a 2003 summer hit, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where he played Willy Wonka.

Depp has not been well behaved throughout his career. He was accused of allowing the sale of drugs at "The Viper Room," his Los Angeles night club, after actor River Phoenix died of an overdose on the front steps of the club in 1993. In 1994 he was arrested after trashing a New York hotel suite. Later, in 1999, he was arrested for a fight with the paparazzi at a restaurant.

Depp lives with French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis. The couple has two children, Lily-Rose Melody Depp (1999) and John Christopher "Jack" Depp III (2002). Their primary residence is split between Los Angeles and Southern France. Depp has also been involved with Jennifer Grey, Winona Ryder, and Kate Moss.

Depp continues to play guitar; he can be heard playing the slide guitar in "Chocolat," on the song "Fade In-Out."

He has 12 tattoos including the name of his first-born child, "Lily Rose," his mother's name, and "Wino Forever," which was originally "Winona Forever." The tattoo was altered after their break-up.

Depp disapproves of the paparazzi taking pictures of his two kids, stating that if a paparazzi member takes a photograph, then he will "bite your nose off and swallow it."
