John Travolta is an American actor best known as the star of Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction, as well as his membership in the Church of Scientology.
Travolta is the youngest of six children. He dropped out of high school during his junior year and moved to New York City to pursue performing jobs. Some roles included Grease and on Broadway Over Here!.
His first major film role was in 1976 as Billy Nolan in Carrie. Around the same time his single "Let Her In" reaching #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the next few years he appeared in his most memorable roles: Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever, and Danny Zuko in Grease. The Grease soundtrack went on to sell over 10 million copies -- many of it's songs were performed by Travolta.
Urban Cowboy inspired a national country music craze. Travolta's role as Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction earned him an Academy Award nomination. Following Pulp Fiction, other notable roles were in Get Shorty, Face/Off, A Civil Action, and The General's Daughter.
Travolta converted to Scientology in 1975. His hobby is flying airplanes; he owns a pilots license and five planes.
He and actress Kelly Preston have been married since 1991. He was previously involved with Diana Hyland, who died of breast cancer in 1977. He lives in Jumbolair, Florida. Travolta is currently writing a autobiography, which is expected to be out soon.
