Julia Roberts is one of America's most successful Hollywood actresses, best-known by her role in Pretty Woman.
Robert's parents divorced when she was only five; her father was a vacuum cleaner salesman, actor and writer; her mother was a church secretary and actress. Her mother remarried shortly after the divorce; her father died of cancer when she was only nine. Her older brother, Eric Roberts is also an actor. As a child she had a dream of becoming a boxer, but straight out of high school she found larger successes modeling and taking acting classes.
Roberts first Hollywood film was Mystic Pizza (1988), which helped her gain lots of attention. Her true fame began, however, in the early 1990s with Pretty Woman; co-starred Richard Gere. This role earned her an Oscar as Best Actress. Other films that busted her fame during this time include, Sleeping with the Enemy, Hook, and The Player.
Roberts personal life may bring her more attention than her film career. She was engaged to Kiefer Sutherland in 1991, but the relationship ended days before the wedding when she took off to Europe with Jason Patric. Her and Lyle Lovett got seriously involved a few days after they first met; they were married and then divorced in 1995. She also dated Matthew Perry, Daniel Day-Lewis, Laim Neeson, and Benjamin Bratt. She met her current husband, Danny Moder, on the set of The Mexican in 2000. The were married on July 4, 2002. They have twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus (born November 28, 2004).
Roberts resides in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan, but splits her time between Venice, California, Maliby, and California, where she has homes and retreats. She is a long-time fan of Days of our lives. | |
