Kate Hudson, an Oscar-nominated movie and television actress, is the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn.
Hudson was born to William Louis Hudson and actress Goldie Hawn. She was raised Jewish but also practices Buddhism (she refers to herself as a "Jew-Bu"). Shortly after she was born, Hudson's parents divorced. She and her brother Oliver Hudson were raised by their mother and her long-time boyfriend, actor Kurt Russell. She has two half-siblings, Emily and Zachary Hudson.
Her cousin is singer Sarah Hudson. Hudson attended Crossroads performing school in Santa Monica, California.
Hudson's film career began with lesser-known films such as 200 Cigarettes (1999) and Gossip (2000). Her first major film role was in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous (2000). She also starred in The Four Feathers (2002). She had box office success with her starring role in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003). Subsequently, Hudson appeared in several more romantic comedies, including Alex and Emma (2003) and Raising Helen (2004). Her 2005 film, The Skeleton Key, was a mild success. In 2006 she starred with Owen Wilson and Matt Dillon in You, Me and Dupree.
Hudson is left-handed.
In 2000 Hudson married Chris Robinson of the rock band The Black Crowes. The had their first son, Ryder Russell Robinson, on January 7, 2004. Robinson and Hudson divorced in the fall of 2006.
