Morgan Freeman is an actor and director, known for his wise and unconventional voice that depicts fatherly characters.
Morgan's family moved him and his three older siblings often during his childhood. He lived in Greenwood, Mississippi, Gary, Indiana, and Chicago. He began acting at the age of eight, playing the lead role in a school play. By twelve, he began performing on a radio show in Nashville, Tennessee. After high school graduation he turning down an acting scholarship from Jackson State University to pursue an Air Force career.
Freeman's debut began on Broadway in a touring version of The Royal Hunt of the Sun. In 1968 he debuted in the all-black version of Hello Dolly! He first became known through the eyes of the media through his roles on PBS kids' show The Electric Company and Another World. Notable roles from early in his career include The Shawshank Redemption.
His distinct voice has made him a popular choice for narration, including War of the Worlds, and documentary March of the Penguins. He and Lori McCreary founded movie production company, Revelation Entertainment.
He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Million Dollar Baby.
Freeman has been married twice. He and Jeanette Adair Bradshaw divorced in 1979. He and Myrna Colley-Lee have been married since June 16, 1984. His two sons, Alphonso and Saifoulaye, are from previous relationships.
Freeman has a private pilot's license. He co-owns Madini, a fine restaurant and Ground Zero Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi. |
