Nick Nolte is an actor, model, and producer, known for his diversity of character.

Nolte grew up in Nebraska. His father, Frank Nolte, was a salesman and farmer. After several attempts at a university education, Nolte ended his studies because of poor grades and began a career in theatre. He practiced at Pasadena Playhouse and Stella Adler's Academy in Los Angeles. He also traveled the country to work at varous theaters.

Nolte has starred in over 40 films. He has a known trademark for his gravel-voiced characters. According to Richard Donner, he was the first choice for the 1978 Superman film, which stars Christopher Reeve.

Nolte has battled drugs and alcohol most of his life. Subsequently, rehabilitation has helped his career. Katharine Hepburn once remarked about him falling down drunk in every gutter in town, and Nolte replied, "I've got a few to go yet." Nolte, however, maintains youthful through a regimen of organic foods and vitamins.

Nolte's romantic relationships include Sheila Page, Karen Louise Eklund, Sharyn Haddad, Debra Winger, Vicki Lewis, and Rebecca Linger. He has one son, Brawley King Nolte, with Rebecca Linger. Nolte remains divorced and resides in Malibu, California.
