Roger Ebert is a film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times. He is known for his film reviews that are syndicated to over 200 newspapers worldwide.
His interest in journalism began when he was in high school in Urbana, Illinois. He was the sports writer for The News Gazette and co-editor of his high school newspaper, The Echo. He also wrote for his college newspaper, The Daily Illini, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Ebert began his career as a film critic in 1967, writing for the Chicago Sun-Times. In 1976 he began co-hosting Sneak Previews with Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune, which was made national when it was picked up by PBS in 1978. In 1982 the duo moved to At the Movies, and later became known as "Siskel & Ebert," where they became known for their "thumbs up/thumbs down" film reviews. Gene died in 1999 and the show was retitled Roger Ebert & the Movies. When Richard Roeper, co-host of Chicago Sun-Times, became co-host of the show it was renamed Ebert & Roeper.
Ebert has earned a reputation for heavy mocking sarcasm and criticism. He occasionally rights his reviews for films in various genres including stories, poems, songs, and scripts.
