Bad-Boy Fo' Shizzle
Snoop Dogg, also but not widely known as Calvin Cordozar Broadus, is a hip-hop musician infamous for both his music and his bad-boy image.
Snoop began his career making and recording music on cassette tapes with his buddy Warren G. and stepbrother Dr. Dre. His childhood nickname was "Snoopy," but changed promptly when he began recording. He then took that stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg, which was changed again to Snoop Dogg when he changed his record label to No Limits in 1997.
Snoop Dogg was arrested in 1993 for the death of a gang member rival during the debut of his first album. It is said that Phillip Woldermarian had a stalking obsession with the rapper. The legal battles for this case lasted several years and were eventually discharged on the grounds of self-defense. During this time Snoop was working on his debut album Doggystyle. Murder charges, however, did not stand in the way of the album's success.
Singles "What's My Name" and "Gin and Juice" went straight to the top of the charts and held place in the top ten for several months. It was the first debut album in history to reach number one. Snoop's second album was released in 1996, entitled Tha Doggfather. During this time the gansta rap industry has lost some its appeal and the album never gained the popularity of Doggystyle. His last album produced on No Limits was Tha Last Meal in 2000, which carried a "pimp" style theme rather than gangsta rap lyrics.
In 2004 Snoop signed with the record label Star Trak and produced Rythm & Gangsta The Masterpiece. This "masterpiece" includes the popular single "Drop It Like It's Hot," Snoop's first single to reach number one on American charts. Aside from the rap industry, Snoop has found interest in film and production. He has produced several music videos and taken on a number of small television, movie, and commercial spots.
Snoop holds the ownership of the popular slang language that involves adding an "izz" or "izzle" to a word. And example of this language is "fo' shizzle," which means "for sure." |
