Jim Lehrer is best-known as the news anchor for PBS's The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
Lehrer served in the US Marine Corps for three years, but soon found his career in news. He started as a newspaperman and eventually became the news anchor for a local station in Dallas, TX. In 1972 he began working for PBS. In 1975 he started The NacNeil/Lehrer Report with Rober MacNeil, which later became The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, and is currently known as The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
Jim Lehrer has gained a reputation for being an exceptional moderator. He recently moderated the first presidential debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry on September 30, 2004.
Lehrer is married to novelist Kate Lehrer and has three children. | |
