Big Fat Guy Fights for The Little Guy!Michael Moore is a movie director, author and social commentator. While he is promoted as a "documentary" film maker, his movies are highly personal rants featuring the moral indignation of an obese midwesterner named Michael Moore.
Moore first gained national fame in 1989 with the release of Roger & Me, a movie about the decline of American car manufacturing and Moore's pursuit of an interview with Roger Smith, then the chairman of General Motors Corporation. Moore quickly established a reputation for populist views, belief in the common man and disdain for corporate greed and the globalization of business.
Moore is famous for his humor, both in print and on screen. He appears in his films, typically as the narrator and the interviewer. During the mid-90's he hosted several television shows, including TV Nation and The Awful Truth. Moore has written a number of popular books: Downsize This!, Stupid White Men and Dude Where's My Country?.
He wrote and directed the movie Bowling for Columbine (2002) -- about violence and guns in America, which won an Academy Award, along with the Anniversary Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and France's Cesar Award for best foreign film.
Moore wrote, directed and starred in Fahrenhiet 9/11 (2004), which examines the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and particularly at the actions and responses of President George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden. He wanted Americans to see the film before the November 2, 2004 elections.
While it did not receive any Oscar nominations, Fahrenheit 9/11 was awarded the Palme d'Or, the top honor at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is billed as "the highest-grossing documentary of all time." It took in $120 million at the U.S. box office.
A tireless self-promoter, Moore's movies are arguably not documentaries at all. They succeed as personal statements of moral outrage rather than as documents of current events and affairs. Moore has established himself as a self-righteous, secular priest demanding confessions of venal sin to a movie camera. Even when the confessions are not forthcoming, he pronounces the sinners guilty and consigns them to the frozen immortality that is an appearance in one of his films.
Moore is married to Kathleen Glynn. They have a daughter, Natalie (1981). | |

Carl Angers Smithville, TX | Posted at 8:02pm on Sunday, October 14th, 2007 | MM is a greedy sort that only is interested in his bank account and any political power he can garner. He cares no more for the truth than Al Gore or Hillary Clinton or Barack Hussien Obama. If the truth about anything gets in the way, ignore it or slander it. But always lie if it suits you.
