Elizabeth Dole is a Politician and 2000 presidential candidate.
She represents North Carolina to the United States Senate. She is married to Senator Bob Dole. Dole has held several government positions including commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (1973-79), Secretary of Transportation (1983-79), and secretary of labor in 1989 -- a position she was named to by President George H. W. Bush in 1989. In 1991 she resigned from this position to become president of the American Red Cross.
Dole ran for the Republican nomination in the US presidential election of 2000, but failed to raise enough funds for her campaign, and was pulled out before the primaries. In November of 2004, Dole became chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, making her the highest ranked Senate Republican. She is seen as a candidate nominee for Vice President for the GOP in 2008. | |
