Reverend Jerry Falwell was the founder of the Tomas Road Bible Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, as well as a nationally-recognized political activist.

Falwell was born along with a twin brother, Gene, in Lynchburg, Virginia to Helen and Carey Hezekiah Falwell. He married Macel Pate on April 12, 1958, and the couple had two sons and a daughter. Jerry Falwell, Jr. is a lawyer; Jonathan is a pastor; and Jeannie is a surgeon.

Falwell attended Lynchburg College (Lynchburg, Virginia), but in his sophomore year he transferred to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, where he graduated in 1956. Although he sometimes used the title "Doctor," Falwell never earned a doctoral degree. He held three honorary degrees.

The Old Time Gospel Hour earned Falwell television and radio prominence. He became an active political figure in the 1970s when he founded the Moral Majority, a lobbying party for the right made up of conservative Christians. He is involved with educational institutions and organizations that include Baptist Theological Seminary. He founded Liberty University, a Baptist college in Lynchburg.

Despite his advanced age, Falwell frequently managed to get his foot into his mouth. He was outspoken in his conservative views and often mades national headlines with his conservative and sometimes demented opinions. After the September 11, 2001 attacks he blamed members of the American Civil Liberties Union, pagans, abortionists, and gays for the tragedy, saying "I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

In November of 2004, Falwell announced the creation of the "21st century resurrection for the Moral Majority." It was called the Faith and Values Coalition, and was meant to lobby the United States government. The group aimed to convince the Supreme Court to rule against abortion and to elect another conservative to office after George W. Bush's term ends. Falwell was to serve the coalition as chairman for four years, along with his son, Jonathan Falwell.

It would be nice if 'evangelical leaders' didn't promote hunting and animal cruelty by feeding their stomachs with God's creatures who lived their whole lives in agony. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:13 that we will all give an account for every creature.
Greed, gluttony and living by worldly standards (which includes the agri-business) is sadly a part of our Christianity. Those who support animal cruelty and lead others to partake in it with their chicken, roast beef, steak, pork, fish, and ice cream socials will need to answer God.
Factory farming was conveniently left out of "An Inconvenient Truth". The only light bulbs we need to change is the one in our heads. Changing what we put in our stomachs will significantly help the environment and stop cruelty to God's creatures. God put them in our care to protect. Christians, especially should be the hands, feet and voice of Christ who was compassionate. Our health will also benefit.
Shame on our Christian leaders for promoting the lies of the agri-business. Dairy and meat are bad for us, the environment, the poor in other countries (we take their land, resources, water, and grain from them), and the animals who suffer at the hands of people (made in God's image)! There is nothing 'moral' about animal cruelty.
They are poor representatives/ambassadors/evangelists/pastors/leaders/teachers for Christ.
