1 Timothy 4: 1 However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, 2 by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron; 3 forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be partaken of with thanksgiving by those who have faith and accurately know the truth.

He is an experienced eclessiastic and the Cardinals who voted him Pope showed the world that there is no barrier to leadership in the Church for one who is 78 years old!
It is a pity that so many have false impressions, based on biased newspaper and sensational reporting by the media on the Catholic Church and only see what sinners do and not what the multitudes of ordinary Catholics do selflessly for those in need in the West as well as in the South, East and North! Given the reach of the internet why not look up the Vatican's own website to get a factual picture?
As regards the latest tiff about the holocaust - the Pope was clever enough to first get the erring Bishop back in the fold than as his superior request him to recant! One can only order one's underlings. However twopenny politicians feel that their national ego needs to be served by jumping on the bandwagon - a mere call.

Pope Stresses a Need for Fundamental Values
Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph Alois Ratzinger, was named the 265th reigning pope and head of the Roman Catholic Church on April 19, 2005 at the age of 78. Ratzinger is the oldest pope since Clement XII in 1730.
RAtzinger was born on Holy Saturday at his parents home. That same evening, as soon as his mother recovered from giving birth, she rushed him to the Easter Vigil Mass to be baptised. His father served in the Bavarian State Police and was described by the Sunday Times of London as "an anti-Nazi whose attempts to rein in Hitler's Sturmabteilung forced the family to move several times. The pope's brother George said: "Our father was a bitter enemey of Nazism because he believed it was in conflict with our faith."
The pope is a close ally of his predecessor, maintaining traditional Catholic views on birth control, abortion and homosexualtiy. He is known as a conservative with a strong theology background and Catholic social teaching. Before his appointment he served as the Archbishop of Munich and the Dean of the College of Cardinals. His main concern is to bring back the Christian faith by stressing the need for the world, especially Europe, to return to "their fundamental values."
Pope Benedict speaks German, Italian, French, English, Spanish, and Latin. He also reads Old Greek and Hebrew. He enjoys Mozart and Beethoven and avidly plays piano.

Pope Benedict XVI, speaking on June 9, 2007 during a visit to the Vatican by President George W. Bush. This was the president's first meeting with the pope, who has lamented the "continual slaughter" in Iraq. The two talked for 35 minutes.
Terence Hunt of the Associated Press wrote that "President Bush, denounced by tens of thousands of anti-American protestors on the streets of Rome, defended his humanitarian record Saturday to Pope Benedict XVI."
After the meeting, Bush said "I was talking to a very smart, very loving man. I was in awe and it was a moving experience."
